As Floridians Struggle to Get By, John McCain Simply Doesn't Get It

NEWS FROM THE FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY

For Immediate Release: October 15, 2008

TALLAHASSEE - In advance of the final Presidential debate tonight, the Florida Democratic Party unveiled a new web ad highlighting just how dangerously out of touch John McCain is with the economic challenges facing the people of Florida.

The video, "Fundamentally Wrong," which can be viewed on www.McCainvsFlorida.com, highlights why a McCain presidency means just more of the same.

Since John McCain responded to the worst financial crisis in generations by declaring our economy fundamentally "strong," Floridians have only lost more of their jobs and homes.

No state has lost more jobs than Florida in the past year. We continue to see record foreclosures and increasing upside-down mortgages. Unfortunately, the McCain-Palin campaign has admitted that it can't talk about the economy or they will lose - so they are resorting to false attacks instead.

Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman sent the following email to supporters today, announcing the video:

Dear Friends,

John McCain still doesn't get it.

Florida's economy is hurting. Our friends are losing their jobs and our neighbors are losing their homes. The costs of everything from gas and groceries are skyrocketing, making it harder each day for Floridians to make ends meet.

But what is John McCain's response to the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression? He comes to Florida to lecture us about how the "fundamentals of our economy are still strong."

A few weeks ago, we launched our "McCain vs. Florida" Web site so you can see firsthand just how dangerously out of touch John McCain is on the issues important to the people of Florida.

Today, we are launching a new web video at www.McCainvsFlorida.com that highlights how wrong John McCain is for Florida's economy.

Given his erratic response to the financial crisis and the fact that he has repeatedly admitted he doesn't know much about the economy, it's hardly surprising that that McCain is now trying to "turn the page" so he doesn't have to talk about what matters to you.

Rather than talking honestly about the economy, McCain's campaign has devolved into a fraudulent personal attack machine. McCain's advisors know that their candidate has no plan to help struggling Floridians and will continue the same failed polices of George Bush that created this mess in the first place.

John McCain can run from the most important issue in Americans' lives, but he can't hide.  This video - which I hope you visit www.McCainvsFlorida.com to watch - shows why.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Karen L. Thurman
