NEWS FROM THE FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC PARTY
For Immediate Release: April 15, 2009
Tallahassee, FL - Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, will deliver the keynote address to the Florida Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner.
Democrats from across the state will gather at the newly renovated Fontainebleau in Miami Beach, FL on May 30th to celebrate the historic 2008 election and look forward to bringing change to Florida in 2010 elections.
"I am honored to join the Florida Democratic Party as we work together to bring change to the Sunshine State by electing Democrats across Florida. Under Chairwoman Thurman's leadership, the Florida Democratic Party has worked to empower grassroots activists and modernize the party's infrastructure, resulting in the largest gains that Florida Democrats have seen in generations. Because Florida will continue to be a key part of the Democratic Party's success with important races here in 2010, we look forward to working with Democrats across Florida to keep the momentum going," said Kaine.
"As President Obama's selection for DNC Chairman, we are thrilled that Governor Kaine will join us as our guest of honor for our 2009 Jefferson-Jackson Dinner and look forward to working with him as we focus on winning in 2010. With Florida Democrats working to deliver the critical 60th vote in the U.S. Senate, to re-elect CFO Alex Sink, to continue our momentum in picking up Congressional seats, and to bring balance to the Cabinet and Florida Legislature by electing Democrats, Florida Democrats are organized and energized for the 2010 elections so we can bring change to Florida," said Florida Democratic Party Chair Karen Thurman.
Tim Kaine, the 70th Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, was elected DNC Chairman on January 21, 2009. As President Obama's selection for DNC Chairman, Gov. Kaine has declared that Democrats will continue to fight in all 50 states "now and forever." Gov. Kaine, fluent in Spanish from his community service as a missionary in Honduras, believes that every state, every region, every community, and every person matters. Under Governor Kaine's leadership, Virginia Democrats regained two U.S. Senate seats, a majority of Virginia's Congressional delegation, and control of the Virginia Senate, and delivered the Commonwealth of Virginia for President Obama, Virginia's first Democratic electoral votes in 44 years.
