Is Crist Slipping?

For Immediate Release: April 10, 2008

TALLAHASSEE - What could possibly be more devastating to Empty Chair Charlie Crist's ego than a new poll showing his approval has dropped to its lowest level ever?

Getting dropped from the McCain VP shortlist, of course.

A respected Washington political analyst, Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic, released his top five potential vice presidential picks for McCain, but Crist failed make the cut. He even got beat out by Utah's Governor and South Carolina's Governor (who did not endorse McCain in the primary).

Add to that a new Quinnipiac poll showing his approval rating down a full 14 points in nine months, and it's not a cloudy day in perpetually sunny Crist World.

According to Quinnipiac, Crist's approval dropped to 59%, which is still relatively high, of course, but nowhere near his high of 73 back in July. Also, his disapproval has jumped to 25% - more than double what it was in July.

"The people of Florida are seeing that Crist's big talk isn't coming to fruition. The Republican recession is getting worse while insurance rates and property taxes remain high," Florida Democratic Party spokesman Mark Bubriski said. "The only thing that has dropped 'like a rock' is the people's faith in the governor's ability to get things done."
