SPECIAL OF THE DAY: The “Rental Car” Waffle

Crist-Crossin’ Charlie’s House of Waffles

Crist Supported Tax On Rental Cars On Theory That It Had To Be Approved By Voters.  In 1996, "Crist backed a rental car tax for a stadium for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and said he did so because the tax was subject to voter approval in a referendum."  In fact, he "testified in support of" the bill.  [St. Petersburg Times, 05/27/06]

Crist Said He Would Have Vetoed Tax On Rental Cars That Had To Be Approved By Voters.  During an interview with Florida Transportation Monthly, Crist was asked:  "Although it passed both the House and Senate by overwhelming margins in June, Governor Bush vetoed legislation to authorize county governments to seek voter support by referendum to implement a Local Option Rental Car Surcharge.  Had you been Governor when this bill passed the Legislature and came to your desk, what would you have done?" Crist replied:  "I would have vetoed it."  [Florida Transportation Monthly, October 2006]
